Driver charged by Bracebridge OPP in collision with motorcycle on Hwy 118

This morning, the Bracebridge OPP confirmed that the driver involved in a vehicular accident yesterday on Hwy 118 W has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act. Authorities received numerous 911 calls starting at 1:09 PM on October 21. Emergency services responded to an incident involving a motorcycle and a car on Hwy 118 W in Bracebridge.

The road was temporarily closed, and the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. The Bracebridge OPP indicated that this marks the second serious motorcycle incident in that vicinity of Hwy 118 in recent times.

In August 2023, a motorcyclist lost their life in a crash in nearly the same area. In September 2023, the Bracebridge Town Council formally requested that the District of Muskoka conduct a safety review of the section of Hwy 118 that traverses the Balls Flats area. As the road is under the District of Muskoka’s jurisdiction, the proposal seeks to assess safety along a segment of road starting at Manitoba Street and extending just over one kilometer down Hwy 118.
